So there I am in the semifinals of the Monroe County Clay Court Championships. It is tight in the second set. It's a match we should win, but our opponents are pushing back. Up 4-3 after winning the first set, it is time to close this thing out.
I serve and volley, then we have a great seven shot sequence with all four players up at net. Then comes the lob behind my partner.
It looks like an impossible shot, but that has not stopped me from trying before. I run to the back corner and just as the ball is about to bounce a second time, I pivot hard on my left knee and whip a backhand winner down the line. All the spectators roar!
We may have won that point and that semifinal match, but little did I know how "pivotal" that point truly was.
